BROTHER ESAU BIO
In the summer of 2010, keyboardist Don Eason set out to start a Grateful Dead Tribute Band. Don, who has played with the legendary tribute act, Cosmic Charlie, discovered Matt Armstrong, the band’s lead guitarist, formerly of Viva la Muerte. Matt is a member of The Deadwood Society, a group of scholars dedicated to the impact of the Grateful Dead on American culture (composed of, among others, Grateful Dead archivist, Nicholas Meriwether, D.J. extraordinaire, David Gans, and Grateful Dead sociologist, Dr. Rebecca Adams).
The next addition was Robert Kintner, former band mate of Eason, and drummer with Chapel Hill based Blues/Rock Band Blue Diablo. Furthur On Down The Road compliments were Guitarist Steve Weinberg of Bear’s Choice, and Drummer Rob Peele of Jam-Band PhatBread, and owner/director of Center Stage Music School in Raleigh, NC.
At many BROTHER ESAU shows you will find Official Grateful Dead Photographer and Archivist Robbi Cohn, displaying over 20 years of photographs and memorabilia taken and collected while touring with the legendary band.
Guest bass players have included Alan Royal II of Winston-Salem, Chip
Kelly & Jared Pyle of Raleigh, and Bill Porter of Kernersville, NC.
BROTHER ESAU has become a fixture in both the Triangle and the Triad, often collaborating with some of the areas finest musicians. Since the creation of BROTHER ESAU, venues played include The Cat’s Cradle in Chapel Hill, NC, The Blind Tiger in Greensboro, NC, The Pour House Music Hall in Raleigh, NC, and where you can catch them on a regular basis, The Tavern, in Durham, NC.
